Nadedu banda daari

The proud Kannada speaking families have been celebrating the heritage and culture of Karnataka in Adelaide since the early 90s. Small community gatherings at friends houses would often involve singing, dancing and jokes, united by the common language.

The Kannadigas of Adelaide have always gelled together and structuring an official organisation was a formality. Despite the unofficial status of Adelaide Kannadigas, the community was strong enough to host humorists Sudha Bargur, Master Hiranaya and sons, playback singers B.R. Chaya and Manjula Gururaj

As the Kannada speaking population of Adelaide continued to grow, a more systematic approach was required in organizing these cultural events. The Kannada speaking community leaders of the time envisioned a bright future for the Kannadigas of Adelaide, and thus planted the seed to what we see as the AKS today.

The Adelaide Kannada Sangha officially came to fruition on the 10th of June 2006, when playback singer Smt. Majula Gururaj and humourist Sri. Krishne Gowda launched the organization with their best wishes. Since then, the AKS has accomplished various achievements to be proud of.
